As per normal, new term, we faced new modules. However, our new module which is BES 2100 - Foundation of Business Leadership is not an examine module. My lecturer, Ms Suma explained to us what are we required to focus for BES 2100. BES 2100 is the module where we are able to demonstrate higher order of communication skills including; giving instructions, negotiation and the effective presentation of data, understand and demonstrate emotional intelligence and interpersonal awareness as we develop our leadership skills. We need to understand the importance of intrapreneurship behaviour in business organisations, further develop problem-solving skills ny brainstorming and reframing techniques to solve more complex business problems. Hence, we are able to conduct self and peer appraisals; as well as evaluate the impact of the ethics on various aspects of an organisation. Ms Suma did inform us to purchase a textbook too, hence it will be easier for us to understand better on this module.
We had an ice-breaking session where we get to know our new classmates better. Since, I knew most of my classmates, I have no problem interacting with them. Suddenly, while having fun interacting with my team members, Asedah, Nisha and Aesha; Ms Suma assigned a new student named Ai Di in my team, after all, there is a NEW student joining the class. I had fun interacting with Ai Di. He's such a funny guy. After the ice-breaking session, I found that, my ability to communicate and work in teams became more effective and the confident to voice up.
After break, we did 'Belbin Team Roles Quiz'. However, after doing the quiz, I found out that my primary Belbin team role was a 'Team Builder', where my typical features were socially oriented, mild and sensitive to situations. Whereas, my positive qualities would be Cooperative, perceptive, diplomatic. Listens, builds, averts friction, clams the waters. An ability to respond to and promote team spirit. Not forgetting my possible weaknesses, it would be indecisiveness at moments of crisis as well as I can be easily influenced.
Ms Suma explained to us on our first assessment information where we need to do a negotiation test worth of 20 marks. Nevertheless, she gave us homework for the week which we need to read up both leadership self-assessment which is 'AM I AN ETHICAL LEADER?' and 'WHAT'S MY LEADERSHIP STYLE?'. She also told us that she will practicing some cases for our negotiation test preparation during our next lesson.
